Small Businesses Feeling Confident
Small business optimism in the United States has surged to its highest level in three years, according to the latest survey from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).
The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index rose to 104.7 in the latest reading, up from 98.3 just six months ago. The improvement was driven by expectations of better business conditions, improved sales projections, and increased plans for capital investment.
Key Findings
- 42% of small business owners plan to increase capital spending in the next six months
- 35% reported that current inventory levels are too low, suggesting strong consumer demand
- 28% plan to hire additional workers in the coming quarter
- The single biggest concern remains finding qualified workers, cited by 49% of respondents
"When small businesses are optimistic, it's because they see real improvement in their day-to-day operations," said the NFIB's chief economist. "This isn't abstract confidence — it's grounded in actual sales, actual customers, and actual bottom lines."
